Germany

The German coastline is 1585 kilometres long, from Emden in the west to Usedom in the east. This includes many lighthouses, some of them very old, some of them can also be visited.

The members of the European Lighthouse Route Germany Association are committed to preserving the cultural heritage of lighthouses in Germany, promoting dialogue with like-minded people, involving young people and developing creative ideas together.

These lighthouses under the umbrella of the association are often preserved and made accessible to the public through association activities, even if they are still actively used as navigational aids. They are presented here.

In order to bring the idea of networking with each other and with visitors to life, a Germany-wide lighthouse pass will be issued from 2024. Lighthouse fans can purchase this and have it stamped as they explore the lighthouses. This will create a link between the lighthouses in Germany and the visitors. Youth camps are also planned for the longer term. It is conceivable that young people from different countries will carry out maintenance work on lighthouses together or that they will organise exhibitions on their own initiative. Involving young people and bringing fresh ideas is important to the "lighthouses". To this end, digital programmes are also being prepared to whet the appetite for visiting the lighthouses. We say: "A warm welcome!"
