Warnemuende

The lighthouse has been erected in 1898 about 200 m from the beach on the west side of the mouth of the river Warnow. The round white lighthouse with the copper dome-shaped roof and two viewing galleries has been preserved almost in its original state.

Only the window panes had to be replaced and the railing of the galleries was raised by an extension for the safety of visitors. The upper gallery is almost 25 metres high, the middle one 14 metres. Inside the tower, a granite spiral staircase leads up to the lantern room. There are 135 steps to the upper gallery, but it's worth the effort! The former fishing village of Warnemünde lies at your feet and you are rewarded with a gigantic view. There are signs on the railings of the galleries that show you which prominent points in this direction are how far away. Since 1999, the Warnemünde lighthouse has been spectacularly illuminated with a laser show, music and fireworks at the "Warnemünde Tower Lights" event (formerly "Lighthouse in Flames"). This event traditionally takes place on 1 January and attracts several thousand visitors to the Baltic seaside every year.
