Faro San Vicente
Faro San Vicente de la Barquera stands on a rocky promontory at the entrance to the estuary, offering spectacular views of the town and the Oyambre Natural Park. It has been working since 1871. Preserving the original masonry structure, the former lighthouse keeper’s residence has been adapted to create a spacious and bright area that currently houses a permanent exhibition of interpretive panels illustrating the landscape and land-use units of the Oyambre Natural Park. The steep cliffs of Punta de la Silla provide a resting place for numerous seabirds. Visitors will have the opportunity to observe the local birdlife in situ, using the appropriate optical equipment available at the centre. The Interpretation Centre constitutes a perfect vantage point for an initial introduction to the Natural Park. Visitors may learn about the different ecosystems that make up this protected area and receive detailed information to have all the possible opportunities for visiting the natural environment. The lighthouse lantern is not open to visitors. |
