Southwold

Standing proudly in the heart of the charming seaside town of Southwold on the Suffolk coast, Southwold Lighthouse has been guiding mariners since 1890. Uniquely positioned inland among the town’s rooftops, this working lighthouse is a striking blend of tradition and community, serving as a vital aid to navigation for vessels along the East Coast and into nearby ports.

Operated by Trinity House, the General Lighthouse Authority for England, Wales, the Channel Islands and Gibraltar, Southwold Lighthouse is still fully operational and automated. Its white tower rises 31 metres above sea level, offering panoramic views and a fascinating glimpse into maritime life.

Visitors can enjoy guided tours during the summer season, learning about the history, optics, and daily workings of the lighthouse, as well as the vital role it continues to play in maritime safety.
