Richard

The site of Richard's Lighthouse is a unique place in the Medoc landscape. Coming from the maritime domain, it is an integral part of the heritage of the region.

During the 19th century, two lighthouses succeeded each other to help sailors navigate the Gironde estuary. The fire stopped burning in 1953. It followed a long period of abandonment.

Saved in the mid-80s thanks to its takeover by the town hall of Jau-Dignac and Loirac (following the impulse given by young people), Richard's Lighthouse is now a family place that will welcome you in summer and festive events or simply stroll along the dike to enjoy the scenery.

Since 1992, the Richard Lighthouse Municipal Association helped by its volunteer members work to maintain and promote this exceptional site.

Richard's Lighthouse is inhabited. Half of the house-on-lighthouse is reserved for accommodation for a caretaker whose main role is the maintenance of the site.

If you are in any way responsible for one or more lighthouses, you can contact us to have these lighthouses included on this website. The goal is to have as many lighthouses from all coastal nations in Europe placed on the map, so that many visitors can enjoy navigating the map or physically visiting the lighthouse stations.
