Museum Lichtschip Texel

The Lichtschip Texel is a former lightship that once helped guide vessels safely through the busy and hazardous waters of the North Sea. Today, it serves as a floating museum where visitors can experience life aboard a working lightship and learn about the vital role these vessels played in maritime navigation.

Moored in Den Helder, the ship is preserved and operated entirely by dedicated volunteers. They maintain the vessel, restore historic features, and share its story with the public through tours and educational activities.

More than a historic ship, the Lichtschip Texel is a living heritage project — sustained by passion, commitment, and community involvement.

If you are in any way responsible for one or more lighthouses, you can contact us to have these lighthouses included on this website. The goal is to have as many lighthouses from all coastal nations in Europe placed on the map, so that many visitors can enjoy navigating the map or physically visiting the lighthouse stations.
