Welcome to Irish Lights - Ensuring Safety at Sea

Irish Lights (www.irishlights.ie) is a maritime organisation delivering an essential safety service around the coast of Ireland, protecting the marine environment, and supporting the marine industry and coastal communities. Great Lighthouses of Ireland (www.greatlighthouses.com) is a lighthouse tourism initiative developed by the Commissioners of Irish Lights and supported by Ireland’s tourism agencies- Fáilte Ireland, Tourism Northern Ireland and Tourism Ireland.

In supporting Great Lighthouses of Ireland, Irish Lights is committed to the development of a sustainable economic model and the reinvention of individual lighthouses as visitor attractions and unique self-catering accommodation that contribute to local communities. Since 2015, the Great Lighthouses of Ireland partnership has grown from strength to strength, offering a variety of 17 experiences with more than 155,000 visitors each year visiting or staying at a lighthouse. This success is down to the combined effort of a dedicated community of people at local and national level who have worked together to develop a unique visitor experience at each lighthouse site, which is true to the identity of their own local community and all hugely committed to preserving Ireland’s lighthouse heritage.

Featuring sixteen lighthouses in stunning coastal locations Great Lighthouses of Ireland offers visitors unforgettable experiences and creates a deep appreciation of the role of lighthouses, past and present, and in the maritime and seafaring story of the island of Ireland.

If you are in any way responsible for one or more lighthouses, you can contact us to have these lighthouses included on this website. The goal is to have as many lighthouses from all coastal nations in Europe placed on the map, so that many visitors can enjoy navigating the map or physically visiting the lighthouse stations.
