Portland Bill

Portland Bill Lighthouse, located on the southernmost tip of the Isle of Portland in Dorset, has been guiding vessels through the hazardous waters of the English Channel since 1906. Operated by Trinity House, the lighthouse marks a crucial point for ships navigating the strong tides and rocky coastline around Portland Bill.

The striking red and white tower stands 41 metres tall and remains fully operational, its powerful light and fog signal warning mariners of the infamous Portland Race. The lighthouse also houses a visitor centre and exhibition, offering insight into its construction, keepers' lives, and the role of Trinity House in maritime safety.

Climb the 153 steps to the lantern room for stunning views over the Jurassic Coast—a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Portland Bill Lighthouse is a beacon of safety, heritage, and engineering excellence.
