Antifer

The first lighthouse at Antifer was built in 1894 to mark the namesake cape and facilitate access to the port of Le Havre, located about 20 kilometers further south. During World War II, the site was occupied by the German army, which destroyed the lighthouse in September 1944 as Allied forces advanced following the Normandy landings.

The current lighthouse, rebuilt in 1955 is distinguished by its height and proximity to the cliff. "This lighthouse reconstruction was carried out in a style similar to what the architect Perret implemented in Le Havre." With an height of 37.9 meters and a light positioned 120 meters above sea level, it’s the tallest lighthouse in Europe in terms of focal height. Its commanding presence and striking silhouette make it a powerful symbol of maritime heritage and a major attraction on the coastline of Albâtre.

From the top of the tower, visitors can enjoy a view that includes the oil terminal, remnants of the Atlantic Wall, and the site of Operation Biting.
