Carteret
The Carteret Lighthouse was built in 1839, to protect sailors crossing the Passage of the rout. Automated in 1976 and with a keeper until 2012, it is still in operation today. The site opened it doors to the general public in July 2016.
Come and climb 58 steps inside the lighthouse to get to the plateform, where you will be over 85 metres above sea level, and ca admire the spectacular view of the Channel Islands and the Ecrehou archipelago, not to mention the sea of dunes at Hatainville, the channel leading into the port of Carteret, the sandbar at Barneville and the beach that stretches as far as the eye can see...
All visitors can access the museum section of the lighthouse free of charge, located in the former lighthouse keepers bedrooms, on the ground floor.
It is possible to take the GR 223 near the lighthouse.

The goal is to have as many lighthouses from all coastal nations in Europe placed on the map, so that many visitors can enjoy navigating the map or physically visiting the lighthouse stations.
