Farol da Serreta

n 1891, Councillor Almeida de Ávila proposed the installation of a beacon visible 10 to 12 miles in fair weather at Ponta da Serreta. The Serreta Lighthouse entered service on November 4, 1908, at Ponta do Queimado (Ponta da Serreta). It featured an 11‑meter tower at 96 meters above sea level and a 5th‑order catadioptric optic with a constant‑level lamp, rotated by clockwork.

The optic was replaced in 1935 by a 4th‑order lens, and in 1947 the light source was upgraded to petroleum vapor incandescence. Electrification followed in 1958, using generator sets and a 3000W electric lamp.

The lighthouse was destroyed by the earthquake of January 1, 1980. After provisional solutions, a new structure was installed, and in 1987 the lighthouse was remodeled and automated with a solar‑powered SIRIUS system. In 2004, the tower was replaced by fiberglass modules, reaching 14 meters in height.
