Bovbjerg Fyr

Bovbjerg Lighthouse is located on the west coast of Jutland near Lemvig, Denmark. Built in 1877, it remains in operation and stands on the 41-metre Bovbjerg Cliff with wide views over the sea and landscape. The lighthouse was painted red to distinguish it from the nearby church towers in Ferring and Trans, which had served as navigational marks before its construction. It still holds the original Fresnel lens, and the tower is noted for its solid 19th-century craftsmanship. Bovbjerg Lighthouse was automated in 1965, and the last lighthouse staff left the site in 2003. Today, the lighthouse operates with a characteristic double flash every 15 seconds and also serves as a cultural and visitor centre with exhibitions, guided tours, events, and a café. The site is managed by the Bovbjerg Lighthouse Foundation together with a dedicated team of volunteers.

If you are in any way responsible for one or more lighthouses, you can contact us to have these lighthouses included on this website. The goal is to have as many lighthouses from all coastal nations in Europe placed on the map, so that many visitors can enjoy navigating the map or physically visiting the lighthouse stations.
