Farol do Cabo Raso

The 1833 General Lighting and Buoyage Plan already proposed a harbour light for Cabo Raso. In 1884 the Lighthouse Commission approved a 4th‑order white‑flash light to be placed in the São Brás fort, but this plan was abandoned for a simpler, cheaper solution. The lighthouse entered service in 1894 with a dioptric device and a fixed red petroleum lamp. In 1915 a 13‑meter metal tower was added, using a 5th‑order optic. In 1922 it was replaced by a rotating 6th‑order optic emitting two red flashes every 10 seconds. A building for the fog signal was completed in 1925, followed by an air‑powered siren in 1927. Electrification arrived in 1947, and connection to the public grid in 1969. The lighthouse was automated in 1984 with a PRB system and a CEFA 1000 signal. In 2000 a new OMRON remote‑control system was installed, and in 2003 an ML‑300 lantern replaced the PRB‑46. In 2009 it was connected to the public water supply.
