Longstone

Visit Longstone Lighthouse, perched on Longstone Rock in the Farne Islands—famous for the heroic 1838 rescue by Grace Darling and her father. From Grace’s tiny bedroom window, she spotted survivors of the Forfarshire shipwreck clinging to nearby rocks. Braving a fierce storm, the Darlings rowed out and rescued nine people, sheltering them in the lighthouse for two days.

Today, you can sail to this historic site on a guided Longstone Tour, which includes a 30-minute lighthouse tour and a cruise around the islands to view seabirds and grey seals. Enjoy full commentary as you explore one of the UK’s most dramatic coastal landscapes.

Opening and landings are weather-dependent and subject to Trinity House operational requirements and boatman discretion.

If you are in any way responsible for one or more lighthouses, you can contact us to have these lighthouses included on this website. The goal is to have as many lighthouses from all coastal nations in Europe placed on the map, so that many visitors can enjoy navigating the map or physically visiting the lighthouse stations.
